Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British racer, who grabbed the points lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs. Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the championship fight, sitting 36 points behind Norris, finished in P17 as his team ran a unique setup. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he rotated at Turn Four soon after starting. The Japanese lost control over the curbs on exit before spinning across the gravel trap, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the barrier. Ferrari's the seven-time champion also spun, at the final moments of the session, turning around through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the pit straight. The seven-time champion wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds behind the Australian's time. The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
